3.13 Cutters. The contractor shall furnish four sets of cutters. Each set of
cutters shall consist of five different widths of 0.015, 0.020, 0.025, 0.030, and
0.035 inch each in three different diameters of 0.250, 0.3125, and 0.375 inch (four
sets total, 60 cutters). All cutters shall fit a 0.125 inch diameter arbor. Cutters
shall be of the saw type for cutting U-shape slots and shall conform to the
requirements specified in 3.4. Cutters shall be tungsten carbide or high speed steel,
heat-treated to 63-65 Rockwell C hardness.
3.14 Interchangeability. All parts of the end item shall be manufactured to
definite standards and tolerances. Parts subject to possible future replacement shall
be assigned a manufacturer's part number. When industry or government standards are
applicable, replaceable parts shall conform to the standards. All possible future
replacement, repair, and spare parts shall provide the same or better form, fit,
function, and performance as the respective parts provided initially in the end item.
When industry or government standards are applicable, al replaceable parts shall
conform to the standards.
3.15 Electrical equipment.
3.15.1 Switch. Switch shall be of quick break design and shall have a locking
device for holding in "on" position. Switch shall be readily accessible, and
self-contained. Switch shall comply with UL 20.
3.15.2 Cable and plug. The electrical power supply cable shall be not less than
10 feet in length and shall terminate with a three-prong grounding plug in accordance
with W-C-596 and W-C-596/13. The electric power supply cable shall include
sheathing/covering in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA-70, and
OSHA 2206, subpart S-Electrical. The electrical power supply cable shall have a
voltage/potential and ampere/current carrying capacity exceeding that required by the
electric motor of the undercutter in accordance with NFPA-70.
3.16 Safety devices. Safety devices shall be provided to protect the operator
from undercutter elements which present safety hazards. Safety devices shall not
interfere with the operation of the undercutter or with the operator's performance.
3.16.1 Occupational safety standards. The product shall comply with the
subparts of OSHA 2206 that are applicable to the machine itself.
3.17 Height limitations. The weight without cable, plug connector, and
accessories shall not exceed 30 pounds.
3.18 Protective finish. The protective finish shall be paint. All surfaces to
be painted shall, immediately prior to painting, be cleaned, dried, and free of all
foreign matter. The protective paint coating shall be no less than 0.002 inch
thickness. The adhesion of the paint shall prevent any peeling of paint when removing
fiber glass tape applied over two intersecting cuts in the paint, the cuts being not
less than 2 inches in length and through the paint thickness to the base metal. The
surface hardness of the paint shall be in accordance with the industrial practice of
checking with pencil lead and shall be within the range of H to HB lead. Where no
protective finish can be utilized (such as bedways, machine guidance surfaces, etc.)
the natural finish of the material or the finish obtained from heat treatment is
permissible provided the surfaces are free from scale or corrosion and preservative
treated.
